Just received in the mail my 2021 Shirley Jackson Award!

Just received in the mail this divine 2021 Shirley Jackson Award!

This for: Professor Charlatan Bardot's Travel Anthology to the Most (Fictional) Haunted Buildings in the Weird, Wild World (published by Dark Moon Books) with Charlatan Bardot!!!

A beautiful, ornate wood box with a bronze compass and engraved plate inside, as well as a Shirley Jackson “stone”.

I also created my very first unboxing video for it! (and unlike writing awards, I won’t be winning any awards for video production quality, haha.) I realized afterwards, rather than looking at the camera, I was speaking to my children at an angle.

Thank you again to the jurors, readers, reviewers, and other supporters of dark, imaginative fiction!

Nomination to the 2022 World Fantasy Awards!!

This week I learned that I was nominated to the 2022 World Fantasy Awards!!! To say I am insanely thrilled and honored for this recognition would be an understatement. I have long followed and admired the World Fantasy Awards and recipients, and it’s the realization of a dream to be named among such highly-esteemed peers. I’ve been named a finalist in the category of anthology for my book Professor Charlatan Bardot's Travel Anthology to the Most (Fictional) Haunted Buildings in the Weird, Wild World, published last November by Dark Moon Books.

Thank you to all contributors who were a part of this creative journey. There were 63 authors involved, 2 artists, and, of course, my editing counterpart, Professor Charlatan Bardot (who also wishes to extend his gratitude).

Thank you also to the judges, readers, reviewers, and other supporters!

And
congratulations also to many other friends and authors I admire who are on this year’s ballot, such as Jeffrey Ford, Eugen Bacon, Ellen Datlow, Paula Guran, Usman Mlk, Angela Slatter, Liz Hand, Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki, and so many others!

And this coming on the back of a 2021 Bram Stoker Award in category of anthology, and I can safely say this book is still going strong! I'm so proud of it!

Interview up today with ITW's THE BIG THRILL magazine

This just in! The latest article today from THE BIG THRILL magazine is for me!!

This fantastic write-up and interview covers my latest anthology book, PROFESSOR CHARLATAN BARDOT’S TRAVEL ANTHOLOGY TO THE MOST (FICTIONAL) HAUNTED BUILDINGS IN THE WEIRD, WILD WORLD, published by Dark Moon Books!

I’ve been reading the prominent THE BIG THRILL magazine for many years, and am so proud and thrilled to be part of this issue. Published by the International Thriller Writers, and written by Allison McKnight, my thanks to all involved and best wishes for a successful and safe 2022.

= “…PROFESSOR CHARLATAN BARDOT’S TRAVEL ANTHOLOGY TO THE MOST (FICTIONAL) HAUNTED BUILDINGS IN THE WEIRD, WILD WORLD is a guided journey through six continents… a beautifully presented anthology of ghost stories from around the world by writers from around the world. These stories come with illustrations, maps, latitude and longitude, and individual introductions from Professor Bardot himself. (Imagine Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone openings, but instead it’s a widely traveled professor of the obscure and haunted.)… ”

Submissions Review for Professor Charlatan Bardot’s Travel Anthology to the Most (Fictional) Haunted Buildings in the Weird, Wild World

Just got off a Zoom meeting with co-editor CharlatanBardot, beginning the laborious process of reviewing and responding to 350+ open call submissions. What an honor to work with Professor Bardot! Good insights, he knows his paranormal. And the submissions are stellar… heartbreaking to have to send rejection letters for great stories, but there’s only room for a small percentage that align with the flow of the book. This anthology will be THE GREATEST EVER (from me), coming from Dark Moon Books late 2021 or early 2022!
