EXCERPT:
Vilte thought it nonsense that, sick or not, a person should be sequestered for the better part of a decade; even more perplexing that a mother should live in the same house as her daughter but never be allowed to meet. Yet whenever Vilte asked Father what ailed her mother and why it prevented her from acting as a mother should, Father told her only that Mother was unwell, and that when she was older, Vilte would understand.
